People urged to consider alternatives to A&E

Thursday, October 4, 2018

Southport and Ormskirk Trust Emergency Department is experiencing exceptional pressure today due to attendances and the availability of beds for hospital admission from the Emergency Department.

People attending A&E are likely to experience delays if they need to admission to a hospital bed.

People are asked to consider whether there are suitable alternatives to attending the Trust’s Emergency Department. This will help ensure that A&E is kept free for genuine medical emergencies.

If someone requires medical assistance which is not an emergency they can visit their GP. Alternatively, or if medical assistance is required outside of normal GP opening hours, there is a wide range of alternative health services available including the NHS 111 service, walk-in centres and pharmacists who are qualified to offer advice and treat common, everyday illnesses quickly and conveniently.
